Bringing regulation into the team room

Susana Carr

Last week I launched the MyTappyPlace app. It does something I care about: it puts a short tapping round in someone's pocket for the moment after a hard call. But the thing I keep coming back to is that nobody in social care gets dysregulated on their own.

The visit that stays in your jaw. The work you carry through your front door at night. I've written about both on this blog, and neither happens in isolation. They happen inside teams and services. When the pressure is shared, the tools for coming down from it should be shared too.

That's why I run workshops. An app helps one practitioner at ten at night. A workshop changes what a whole team knows how to do together on a Tuesday morning.

What happens in a workshop

Every workshop is built around the real pressures of the team in the room. Before we meet, I talk with whoever is booking about what the last few months have looked like for their staff. That conversation shapes the examples we use and the tapping rounds we do together.

People learn the EFT tapping sequence and practise it on work they actually do: the difficult visit and the drive home afterwards. We then look at where a two-minute reset can sit in a working day, and how teams can protect that space when caseloads spike. I bring my social work and Registered Manager experience into it, so this is never wellbeing delivered from the outside.

The simplest way I can put the difference between formats is this: a half day gives someone a technique, and a full day gives them a practice.

Taster, 90 minutes: testing appetite in a team before committing to more.

Half-day workshop, 3 hours: leaving with a tool staff can use on their own.

Full-day workshop, 6 hours: building tapping into how a team works and supports each other.

Bespoke programme, designed with you: services wanting a wellbeing intervention shaped around their workforce.

Foster carer half day or full day, 3 or 6 hours: fostering services supporting carers with placement pressures and endings.

All formats can be delivered in person or online.

The aftercare package: so it doesn't stay in the training room

Anyone who has sat through a good training day knows what happens next. You go back to your desk and the inbox is waiting. By Thursday the new thing has gone.

So after a workshop, I build each team five digital EFT sessions of their own. They're recorded around the pressures that came up in our planning conversation and on the day, and they sit on a private page staff can open whenever they need them. A practitioner can tap along between a strategy meeting and a home visit using rounds that already speak their language.

Alongside their own sessions, everyone also gets access to the full MyTappyPlace app for the same period. That means short guided rounds for whatever the week throws at them, so tapping becomes something they reach for most days rather than something they remember from a training day.

How it works with each format:

Full-day workshop: included, with six months' access to the tailored sessions and the app for everyone who attended.

Half-day workshop: available as an add-on, with three months' access to the tailored sessions and the app for up to 30 staff.

Bespoke programme: built in from the start.

Taster: not included, because one session is about finding out whether tapping is right for your team.

Access can be renewed when the period ends, so the sessions can stay part of how your team works.

What people said in May

In May I ran EFT for Social Workers: A Practical Workshop for Nervous System Regulation at the Developing Together Partnership conference. Here is some of what people wrote afterwards.

"This was a good practical workshop that provided me with another grounding technique to help me through my emotions, especially working with families that are challenging." Workshop participant, May 2026

"Loved learning about this practical solution for dealing with stress." Workshop participant, May 2026

"Helpful tool to try and share." Workshop participant, May 2026

Everyone who completed the feedback form rated the workshop 4 or 5 out of 5, and seven out of nine gave it the top score.

What stays with me is how many of the comments were about using it. People wrote that they would bring it into their practice and keep going with it. That's exactly what the aftercare package is there to support.

Who this is for

I work with local authority children's and adult services, fostering services and other frontline organisations whose staff carry other people's distress for a living. Most bookings come from workforce development leads, Principal Social Workers or service managers who can see what the pressure is costing their teams in sickness and turnover.

If that's you, I'd love to have a conversation about what your team is dealing with right now. There's no obligation and no hard sell. Email me at susana@mytappyplace.co.uk and we can find a time to talk.

And if you're a practitioner reading this and thinking my team needs this, forward it to your manager. Sometimes that's how these things start.
