Wellbeing training for domestic abuse services

People in domestic abuse services spend their working days alongside fear. Staff hear accounts that are hard to forget, and they have to stay clear-headed enough to assess risk and plan for someone's safety while they listen.

Then they go home, and often the work goes with them.

If you manage or commission domestic abuse services, I run wellbeing training that gives your staff a practical way to settle their nervous system during and after this work.

Why regulation belongs in practice

When we are under stress, the body gets ready to protect us. Heart rate rises and thinking narrows. That response helps in a crisis. Repeated day after day, it wears people down.

In domestic abuse work this matters for more than staff wellbeing. A regulated worker thinks more clearly under pressure and stays connected to the person in front of them, and both are at the heart of safe practice. I see regulation as part of good practice, something a team builds into its everyday work, and that is how I teach it.

Hearing about abuse again and again can also leave its own mark. You can read more in my guide to vicarious trauma.

What the workshop covers

I start by explaining what happens in the brain and body under stress, in plain language. Then I teach EFT tapping, a simple technique that combines tapping on points on the face and upper body with naming what you feel. We practise together, so staff leave with something they have already tried and can use on their own, between calls or at the end of a shift.

No one has to share anything personal. You can tap along while privately thinking of a difficult moment from work. It helps if someone is happy to offer a general example for the group, but this is always optional.

Tapping may help staff feel calmer and more settled after a difficult conversation. I'm careful not to promise more than that, and if you'd like to weigh it up yourself, I've written about what the evidence says.

About me

I'm Susana Carr, founder of MyTappyPlace. I'm a registered social worker with over fifteen years in social care and a Level 2 EFT practitioner. Domestic abuse has been part of my social work practice, alongside child protection.

I came to EFT in 2024, after a frightening experience in my own family. It helped me find my footing again, and it is still the tool I reach for first.

I have delivered workshops for Cafcass and the National Association of Supported Accommodation Providers. Your team knows its own work best. I bring what I've learned in social care and from using tapping myself.

Talk to me about your team

If you'd like to explore a workshop for your service, get in touch and tell me a little about your team. I'm offering a founding-partner rate to the first organisations I work with, in return for feedback and a short case study.

If you'd like to try tapping first, the free three-minute session needs no sign-up.
