Wellbeing training for refugee and asylum services

People working in refugee and asylum services hear accounts of war and persecution, often in the same week as they are helping someone through a system full of uncertainty. Many teams are small and stretched, and the people they support may wait months or years for news that will shape their lives.

If you manage a refugee or asylum service, I run wellbeing training that gives staff a practical way to settle their nervous system, during the work and after it.

Why it matters

Stress narrows our thinking and makes it harder to stay present. In this work, staying present matters a great deal. A regulated worker can listen without being overwhelmed and stay connected to someone who may have learned not to trust easily.

Hearing about trauma again and again can also affect the listener. This is often called vicarious trauma, and my guide to vicarious trauma explains how it shows up.

What the workshop covers

In each workshop I explain what stress does to the brain and body, then teach EFT tapping, a simple self-help technique of tapping on points on the face and upper body while naming what you feel. We practise it together, so staff leave with a tool they can use between appointments or at the end of the day.

No one has to share anything personal. You can tap along while privately thinking of a difficult moment from work. It helps if someone is happy to offer a general example for the group, but this is always optional.

About me

I'm Susana Carr, founder of MyTappyPlace. I'm a registered social worker with over fifteen years in social care and a Level 2 EFT practitioner. I haven't worked in refugee and asylum services myself, but I know how much frontline work with people in crisis asks of staff.

I learned EFT in 2024 when I needed it myself, after a frightening experience in my family.

I have delivered workshops for Cafcass and the National Association of Supported Accommodation Providers.

Talk to me about your service

I know budgets in this sector are tight. I'm offering a founding-partner rate to the first organisations I work with, in return for feedback and a short case study. Get in touch and we can talk about what would work for your team.

If you'd like to try tapping first, the free three-minute session needs no sign-up.
